Alpine vs. Commercial California Strawberries
Sun, 06/13/2010 - 6:59am
I grow alpine strawberries in my backyard. They are tiny and I only get a dozen every few weeks. However one tiny alpine strawberry has more taste than the huge, mutant, strawberries on offer at the local markets. Those monsters are all white in the middle. If you scrape off the red part you have removed all taste. Strawberries supposedly adsorb chemicals so my organic ones are safer. I just can't eat the commercial varieties. Most people don't even know the difference.
So which are better? Well it is sort of a trick question because I grow alpine strawberries in CA. They are so very much better it isn't funny.
